Meta Tags on Wix: How to Add Titles and SEO Descriptions

Meta tags are snippets of text that describe the content of your page. Invisible on the page itself, they appear in your page’s code and are accessible to search engines, telling them how to display your pages in search results.

In search results, information about your page consists of two parts: the meta page title and the meta page description. Adding meta tags allows you to choose a unique title and description for each page of your website in search results, which appear when someone enters a query in a search engine. These meta tags help potential visitors understand what your page is about based on the information displayed in the search results.

Page Title (title)
A clear title helps potential visitors decide whether they should visit your site. Your page title should be concise and clear, with a focus on your page’s keywords. Adding a unique meta title for each page helps both visitors and search engines distinguish between the pages of your website.

Tips for Writing an Effective SEO Page Title
Each page title should be unique and provide brief information about the page’s content.
Use the page’s main keyword in the title.
Include the name of your business or website.
Add the geographic location of your business, if applicable. For example: city/country/district or region.
The title should not exceed 55–70 characters.
Use a vertical bar (|) to separate parts of the title.
If you don’t own a business, use the following format: Keyword | Brand Name For example: Hairdresser Maria Ivanova | Hairdressing Services
To change the page title:
Click Menus & Pages on the left side of the editor.
Click the Show More icon next to the relevant page.
Select SEO.
Enter the title in the field What’s the page title on search engines and browser tabs?
Click Publish in the top-right corner of the Editor.
Page Descriptions (meta description)
The page description appears below the page title and link in search results. It is not displayed on the website page itself. The page description provides potential visitors with brief information about its content. It gives you the opportunity to promote your website pages and helps visitors understand what the page is about before they click the link. As with page titles, it is important to make the description of each page unique.

Tips for creating an effective SEO page description
The optimal length of a Description tag is 150–300 characters for Google and up to 160 characters for Yandex. This does not directly affect SEO, but a good description improves the user experience.
Try to make the keywords in the description look natural.
It’s best to place keywords near the beginning of the text, and the text should not be repeated in other sections of the site.
If a search engine like Google considers your meta tags inaccurate or incomplete, it may choose other, more relevant content from the page to display in search results. Therefore, it is recommended to add complete and accurate page descriptions.
To change the page meta description:
Click Menus & Pages on the left side of the editor.
Click the Show More icon for the relevant page.
Select SEO.
Add text in the What is this page about? Description field.
Click Publish in the top-right corner of the Editor.
Don’t forget to publish your site after making any changes to its content. When you edit and make changes to your website, search engine bots need to reindex it in order to display the updates in search results. You can speed up this process in the following ways:
Verify your website in Google Search Console.
Submit your sitemap directly to search engines each time you make changes to your site.
