SEO WIX | Step-by-Step Recommendations for Promoting a Wix Website

Wix SEO is a set of strategies aimed at improving your website's ranking in search engine results.

As you may already know — or perhaps are just discovering :) — promoting a website on Wix, just like promoting a site on any other platform, is not an easy task. Of course, the ideal option is to turn to a professional and entrust the optimization of your website to a specialist. However, if you are seriously planning to improve your rankings on your own, I will be happy to help you with my recommendations.
Steps to Promote Your Website
1. ADD A SITEMAP PAGE
A sitemap is a page on your website that reflects the structure and content of your site. It helps your visitors navigate more easily and quickly find the information they need.
You should also keep search engine crawlers in mind. To help them scan and index your website faster, I recommend submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console and Yandex Webmaster.

How to Add a Sitemap in Google Search Console
Log in using your account credentials → Select your website →In the left-hand menu, open “Indexing” → “Sitemaps” →In the “Add a new sitemap” field, enter:
sitemap.xml
Then click Submit.
How to Add a Sitemap in Yandex Webmaster
Log in to your account → Select your website →In the left-hand menu, open “Tools” → “Sitemap Files Analysis” →Choose the URL of your site →In the field that appears, enter:
Then click Check.
2. ADD YOUR WEBSITE TO THE DMOZ DIRECTORY
The DMOZ directory was one of the largest web directories in the world. It listed high-quality websites from different countries and continents. Being included in this directory helped increase search engine trust and could give your website an advantage over competitors.
DMOZ requirements:
No copied information or duplicate content
No third-party or stolen content
No violations of laws or regulations
Adding a website to the DMOZ directory was quite simple: go to the directory page, choose the appropriate category, and click “Suggest URL” to submit your website.
3. ADD A SITEWIDE LINK TO YOUR WIX WEBSITE
Use the footer of your website to place a sitewide link. The link text should contain a relevant keyword and lead to the homepage of your site. This helps increase the page’s authority and can positively influence your search rankings.
4. RENAME ALL IMAGES

Images should not only be unique but also include properly optimized Alt attributes. You can rename your image files on your computer before uploading them or do it directly in the editor.
To do this, go to Images → hover your mouse over the image you want → select “Rename.”
This recommendation applies to all images on your website, including icons, images used in blog articles, and product images in your online store.
5. USE CLEAN URLs
About a year ago, Wix fixed an issue related to messy or poorly structured URLs. This means you can now easily optimize the links on your website.
By URL, I mean the page address — specifically the part that appears after the “/” in the link.
Compare these two examples:
Clearly, the second option is much better and easier to understand for both users and search engines.
That’s why I recommend checking all the pages on your website and giving them clear, readable URLs.
Incorrect URLs often appear when someone duplicates the same page multiple times. They can also occur on websites that were created before 2016, when the platform handled URLs differently.

To edit the page URL, follow these steps in the Wix Editor:
Log in to the editor → In the left-side Pages menu, select the page you want to edit → Click Settings (...) → Open SEO Settings → Scroll down to the bottom and change the Page URL field.
6. ADD COMMENTS TO YOUR BLOG POSTS
To increase engagement and conversions in your blog or news section, it’s recommended to add at least 1–2 comments or reviews (especially if the post is about a product or promotion).
In many cases, comments from real users can have more impact than polished advertising, as they build trust and encourage visitors to interact with your content.
7. ADD YOUR WIX WEBSITE TO LOCAL BUSINESS DIRECTORIES
Search engines often prioritize local business listings in their results, especially when a search query is tied to a specific geographic location. That’s why, if your business has a physical or registered address, it’s a good idea to register it in local directories.
